Santa Clara, CA -- V*Channel, Inc. today announced the FAXLink Web FaxGateway. It enables people browsing through a Web site to choose documents from a list and have them sent by fax. Web based fax-on-demand via the Internet/Intranet leverages the fax serving capabilities of the V*Channel's FAXLink system opening up another way to deliver information.
"Web based fax-on-demand provides access to more information than what is viewable on a Web site. Besides enabling access to more information, sometimes people need the information in hard copy, but do not have a printer; especially when they are on the road," said Alan S. Yatagai, V*Channel's president. He added, "Web based fax-on-demand is a natural extension of the touch-tone phone based fax-on-demand. Now people can help themselves to faxable documents from the Web site. In addition, Web based faxing is useful for call centers on the Intranet. Service representatives can select documents from a list displayed on an HTML page and have them sent by fax."
The FAXLink Web FaxGateway features a command language application programmer's interface. Using this command language, Web servers through CGI scripts can control FAXLink to send a fax. The command language supports parameters such as the recipient's fax phone number, recipient's name, transmission date and time, document files to attach, cover text message to use, and more. In addition, the Web FaxGateway also returns status of the fax transmission. Using this information, the Web server can return status to the originator of the request either in e-mail or real-time information displayed in an HTML form.
When the FAXLink Web FaxGateway is used along with V*Channel's Doc-2-Fax technology, HTML , PDF, Word and many other formatted files can be automatically processed for fax transmission. These documents can be existing document files or documents created on the fly by the Web server or any other computing device on the network. Using the Doc-2-Fax technology, data from ODBC compatible databases could be merged into a template form to produce a document dynamically. The integration of the Doc-2-Fax process delivers document support unparalleled in the fax solutions marketplace.
The FAXLink Web FaxGateway supports both on-site Web servers and ISP hosted Web sites. An on-site Web server communicates with the FAXLink Web Fax Gateway using a file-based command language, while the ISP hosted Web site uses e-mail to communicate the necessary information.
The FAXLink Web FaxGateway is immediately available from V*Channel, Inc. Existing users of V*Channel's FAXLink system can add the Web FaxGateway with or without the Doc-2-Fax process.
